Fonepay has announced a partnership with Alipay+, marking yet another important step making Nepal a more digitally accessible and tourist-friendly destination. The announcement was made at a formal event held at The Soaltee Kathmandu on August 28, 2025, and was attended by distinguished guests, industry leaders, and representatives from Alipay+, Nepal Tourism Board, banking and financial institutions, tour operators, guides, prominent media houses, and business communities.
Mr. Kiran Pandit, Executive Director of the Payment System Department at Nepal Rastra Bank, was the Chief Guest, while Mr. Shubhash Chandra Ghimire, Director of the Payment System Department, Nepal Rastra Bank, delivered the key remarks of the event.
Speaking about this partnership, Edward Yue, General Manager for SEA, South Asia, and ANZ at Ant International, commented, “We’re very proud to celebrate this landmark moment to support the advancement of Nepal’s digital payments and travel ecosystem. Furthermore, Diwas Sapkota, CEO of Fonepay, shared his thoughts on this collaboration, “It’s about making payments seamless for travelers while helping our merchants reach more customers.”
The collaboration between Fonepay and Alipay+ goes beyond financial transactions. It strengthens cultural and economic ties between Nepal and the Asia-Pacific region. With this partnership international travelers from 11+ countries including China, South Korea, Malaysia, Singapore, the Philippines, Thailand, Germany, and Italy can now pay in Nepal. Using familiar e-wallets like Alipay, KakaoPay, GCash, Touch ’n Go, AlipayHK, TrueMoney, and Tinaba, they can scan and pay at over 1.7 million Fonepay QR merchants. By enabling international visitors to make easy digital payments, this partnership aims to enhance the overall visitor experience, boost merchant revenues, and support cross-border connectivity
